Within this master, you can follow one of our two tracks. In the Communication track, you will follow courses on science journalism, make a podcast, science videos, and many more. In the Education track, you will learn everything you need to become a secondary school teacher, through courses and internships. As you will be working in Dutch high schools, you need to be fluent in Dutch.

Coming 29th November the 2023 Edition of the SNiC Conference - CreativIT will take place in 'DeFabrique' in Utrecht.

First, for those of you that aren’t all too familiar, a little more about the SNiC conference: The SNiC conference itself takes place yearly in November, in a different city every year. It attracts hundreds of students from all throughout the country. It’s a single-day event where lots of speakers come and give an interesting talk about state-of-the-art technology or practices in the aforementioned fields. Not only is the day filled with exciting presentations about innovation, during the breaks and after the event you’re also able to have a chat with  any of the participating companies of the conference. They can tell you a lot about career-related questions and projects that their companies are currently working on related to the themes of the conference.

This year the theme will be CreativIT, focusing on the creative ways our industry is rapidly developing. Information on the different tracks can be found on our website (snic-creativit.nl). Speakers will be announced on our Instagram (snic_creativit), but one of them is our keynote speaker Sam Aaron. During his talk "Code Like a DJ with Sonic PI" he will be live coding a show for us!

TL;DR Join us on the 29th of November in Utrecht for an inspiring and engaging conference featuring innovative talks about computer science and company contact; lunch, borrel and dinner included!

Do you have ambitions to go abroad for study, research, or an internship? The Groningen University Fund (GUF) can make your academic travel dreams a reality. The fund offers financial grants specifically tailored to support students in travel-related endeavors. Seize the opportunity to study or research abroad with financial grants up to €650 for travel within Europe and €750 for outside Europe.

How to Apply for Travel Funding:

- Travel Method: For destinations less than 800 km from Groningen or reachable within 9 hours by train, you must travel by train.
- Timing: Applications must be submitted at least 6 weeks before your planned departure.

Individual Student Requirements:

1. Average Grade: Maintain an average grade of at least 7.5 over the past 24 months.
2. Application Package: Compile the following into one digital document and send it to guf@rug.nl:
    1. Completed and signed application form.
    2. Detailed description of your travel plans (max. 2 A4).
    3. Recommendation letter from a study advisor or lecturer.

Feeling confident in your coding skills (or not)? Want to improve your Algorithms & DS knowledge, and become an effective problem solver? Then this is your chance to rise and code! Join a 2 hours programming workshop to get to know interested people like you, what opportunities the new FCG committee can offer you, and everything about the competitive programming scene, inside and outside the Netherlands. Our ultimate aim is to improve your abilities to solve creative programming puzzles. The session will be divided into two parts: Introduction to Competitive Programming, followed by a practical programming and problem solving session. Bring your (beast of a) laptop!

Hello everyone!

Because of the new corona measures a few things surrounding the Cover room are changing starting today. It is firstly not allowed anymore for members to sit in the room. The only thing still allowed is for people to buy drinks/snacks. These will however have to be consumed outside of the room as well. Currently only the board is allowed to stay in the room, meaning we will be the only ones to open and close it as well. That also mean the opening times of the rooms will alter for the upcoming weeks as sticking to the normal 11:00-17:00 schedule will not be managable for just us. For today (17-11-2021) however we can guarantee that the room will be open from 11:00-14:00 for anyone who wants to pick up coffee of tea, or buy any drinks or snacks.

The opening times of the room will be as follows for the next few weeks:
The room will be guaranteed open between 11:00-14:00 most days, except for:
- Friday 19-11, the room will only guaranteed be open from 11:00-13:00.
- Tuesday 23-11 the room will be closed the entire day because of SNiC.

In case of the room opening earlier or closing later, I would like to direct everyone to room.svcover.nl, which will give an accurate idea of when the room is open besides those times.

As usual, the room next to the Cover Room (0041b) will be available during this exam period for everyone looking for a quiet space (with proximity to coffee) to study together with other Cover members :)

We are excited to announce four speakers that will speak at the A.R.T. Symposium next Monday, the 20th of september!

Daniel Domscheit-Berg is well-known as a former spokesman for Wikileaks. He is an activist and IT security expert.


Hans de Zwart is the former director of the civil rights organisation Bits of Freedom, and is cofounder of the Racism and Technology Center. As a philosopher, he focuses on the ethics and philosophy of technology.


Andrea Aler Tubella is a senior research engineer at Umeå University in the Responsible AI group, working on concrete tools to explain, audit and develop intelligent systems responsibly.


Raphaële Xenidis is lecturer in EU law at The University of Edinburgh. She will add an interesting legal perspective to the discussion.

After one postponement and a lot of anticipation, one of Cover’s biggest annual events is back - and it is in person!!!

The symposium will take place at the Forum and it will be a day full of interesting speakers and experts of diverse fields giving talks and discussing with each other. Lunch and drinks will be provided and we will end the day with a borrel in the Forum.
As for this year’s theme, we didn’t have to look far for inspiration; just looking at AI developments every day, there are serious ethical question popping up: algorithmic bias, responsibility gap in autonomous decision making, data privacy.

It’s time for phase 2 of DataDump’s facial attractiveness experiment, in which we try to uncover whether masks make people more or less attractive. Pictures of people with and without masks have been gathered, and now we are looking for people to rate them! If you want to participate, you can find the link to the experiment above. It will take about 3 minutes. The experiment only works on PC.

The data gathered in the experiment will be anonymised, and no statements will be made about individual attractiveness ratings. We are only interested in whether there is a general difference in attractiveness when people do or don’t wear a mask.

As you might have read, the RUG is cancelling all lectures and exams until at least April 10th due to the COVID-19. Following their lead, the Cover Room will be closed from tomorrow onwards. There will be the possibility to pick up your personal belongings between 09.00 and 15.00 tomorrow. Additionally, most events will be cancelled of which the details can be found in the agenda. Unfortunately we have to announce that one of our speakers for the [REC🔴RDED] symposium, Daniel Domscheit-Berg, has cancelled due to growing concerns about COVID-19. He would be travelling from Frankfurt, which would put him at risk of contracting the virus and spreading it. Due to this, we will be rearranging the schedule such that it still ends at 17:15. Therefore the schedule printed on your badges will not be entirely accurate. We will announce a more accurate schedule on the day itself.

We would also like to inform you that we are constantly monitoring the situation around COVID-19.  We are following the guidelines from the RIVM. At present, there is no negative advice concerning this event and it will still take place as planned. Should anything change, we will inform you immediately.

Berco Beute is a software professional from Groningen and studied AI at the RUG. At the symposium he will be addressing the problems of our current information system infrastructure and will propose an alternative way to build those.

With a master’s degrees in both Communication Science and AI, and a PhD in Distributed Systems Berco has been working on the forefront of internet technologies since the early 90’s as a researcher, developer, CTO, author and entrepreneur. His lifelong passion has always been to think of better ways to build information systems. Berco is currently working as an architect at TKP, founder/CEO of Stekz, founder/CTO of Satys, and organizer of the Dutch Python conference PyGrunn.

Berco will talk about rethinking the ways we build information systems. Copying data all over the place has been a necessity for decades due to network(ing) limitations. While networking has improved dramatically, most implementations of information systems still start by copying data to a central place. In this talk Berco will explain why this can be a problem and offer an alternative approach to building information systems that avoids most of the current pitfalls.

Dirk Zittersteyn is a Senior Software Engineer at HackerOne, and studied Computing Science at the University of Groningen. He is our third speaker and a former Cover member!

At HackerOne, founded in 2012 in Groningen, he helps build a hacker-powered security platform. It offers white-hat hackers the possibility to legally hack companies, who welcome their security expertise. Companies use HackerOne to amplify their security team, by tapping in to the expertise of over 600,000 hackers. In the last few years, HackerOne has paid out over $80M to ethical hackers from around the world.

HackerOne has a repository of thousands of publicly accessible vulnerabilities. What better way to learn how to write secure code than by discussing some of the vulnerabilities that hackers have reported on the platform!

The SympoCee is proud to announce the first speaker for the Cover Symposium of 2020, [REC🔴RDED]!

Wiebe van Ranst from KU Leuven will come to Groningen to talk about his research on fooling surveillance cameras. He has discovered a technique involving Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) to prevent persons being recognized by surveillance camera algorithms.

With great disbelief, we have to inform you of the passing of Roel van der Wal on Sunday January 12th. We wish his family and friends a lot of strength. The faculty has situated a memorial room in room 0069 of the Bernoulliborg building where a message for his relatives can be left. The family would really appreciate hearing any stories or memories of Roel you would like to share.

On Monday January 20th, a family gathering will be held to honour Roel where friends are welcome to join. Thursday afternoon, we’ll take a moment to honour Roel during the TAD in the Cover room.

Roel also was a member of Gyas, VIP and Dizkartes. Together with these associations an obituary wil be placed in the Dagblad van het Noorden.

In 2020 the symposium of study association Cover will take place in the brand new Groninger Forum! There will be multiple interesting speakers talking about the latest developments in privacy and cybersecurity. Hacking, mass surveillance and AI face recognition are some of the topics that will be discussed. Lunch and drinks will be provided and we will end the day with a borrel in the Forum. See you there!

Last Wednesday, we released the yearbook 'This was a bad idea' of 2018 - 2019. It features loads of editorials, such as a prize-puzzle, a quiz, and the year review. As always, there are also pieces by our (previous) boards and committees, and our fellow brother and sister associations.

Pick up your yearbook and reminisce about the past year, find out which burger place is a good idea, get to know some bad films, and seize the opportunity to learn from this neat collection of bad ideas!

Ever thought about what you may be doing after your studies? Do you want to know what it is like to apply knowledge in practice? On the 8th of May, Cover will be having the second edition of its Career Day in Het Kasteel. On this day, six of our sponsors will be treating us with lectures, workshops and cases! And on top of that, we will enjoy free coffee and tea, lunch and dinner with them.

The day will start at 9:30 with the attendees signing in and picking up their nametags. At 10:00, we open with a keynote from our main sponsor, Belsimpel. After this, we will have a lecture by Nedap, followed by lunch. After lunch, we have a round of cases/workshops, then a round of soft-skill workshops while dinner is set up. After enjoying that, the bar will open and we will have drinks and networking together with all our sponsors.

While our friends are away on the ExCee trip, we can still get together and have a lovely time playing board games. Are you again bored of not playing enough board games? During the exam period room BB 5161.0041b (aka, the room next to the Cover Room) will transform into our study room for the entire two weeks of the exam period. From the 26th of April till the 4th of May, Cover is travelling to three beautiful cities in Europe: Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest. This trip will be packed with activities! We will explore the culture and history of the cities, find out what the companies and universities there do with AI and CS and last but not least, we will have a great time!

The Alphabet Party is an annual party organised by various study associations of the University of Groningen. Every year we choose a letter from the alphabet and base a theme on that letter. You can all make up your own costume starting with the letter we chose that year.

This year the letter is S! You can either dress as a saint or a sinner this Valentine's and come party with us at the Huize Maas. The doors open at 22:30. If you don't have a costume already you can buy one at Confetti. The ticket for the Alphabet Party includes a 10% discount for Confetti.

To buy a ticket for this party you must sign up! Once you have filled it out you should contact the board of Cover who will give you a physical ticket. Presale tickets are €7 and are available until 11th February. After that, you can buy a ticket at the door for €8.50.

Cover's study room will be opening again so you can have a quiet place to prepare for the exams. The room next to the Cover Room (0041b) will be open from 9:00 til 17:00 every weekday of the exam period. Don't forget! There's free tea and coffee next door to keep your mind focused on passing those exams.

Cover's Academic Day has come around again. On 7th December from 13:00 until 17:00 we will Meet the Researchers! During this afternoon we will hear from several different researchers from across the Faculty of Science and Engineering about how they got into their field and what they are currently working on. Afterwards we will have a small borrel for all attendees.

The way we register purchases of snacks in K.A.S.T. (the food payment system) has been changed. The buttons for Large Candy, Small Candy and Crisps have been replaced by colour coded buttons that show the number of items you are allowed take for one credit. The shelves in the FoodCee cabinet have been marked with corresponding colours (and labels for colour blind people), so you immediately know how many items to take and which button to press on the screen.

KPN Consulting organiseert op 30 april a.s. een inhousedag. Tijdens deze inhousedag kun je de sfeer proeven en een kijkje nemen in ons Datacenter in Almere. Ontdek de wondere wereld van IT en laat je verrassen door de mogelijkheden. De dag zal een interactief en informeel karakter hebben. We starten de dag met een paar korte presentaties, na de lunch gaan krijg je een rondleiding door het Datacenter en een Arduino workshop. We sluiten de dag af met een borrel.

Last week on the general assembly we already announced it: we are looking for people who would like to help us out by being part of one (or more) of the working groups that will focus on the following subjects:

- The long term plan, a document to help guide our association to awesomeness in the coming years.
- Our corporate identity (‘huisstijl’), to give Cover a unified look throughout all the different media we use.
- The translation of documents, so all our members can read all our documents.
- Internationalisation, because Cover can still do better on involving students from other regions of the world.
- Fellowships, a new concept for groups of people with shared interests.

Do you want to earn some extra money by making students in their fourth year of high school enthusiastic about our faculty?
We can use your help at the College Carrousel 2015! On March 31 and April 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9 busses full of kids will arrive that need to be accompanied during the day.
For helping us an afternoon, you will receive 15 euros. For a whole day, you will get 35 euros! It is also possible to help multiple afternoons or days.
The afternoon program will be different from previous years, so it will be a bit more interactive and challenging for the pupils.
If you are interested, just send an e-mail to the board and we will send you more information.
It is required for the College Carrousel to speak Dutch.

Recent is de wet Studievoorschot definitief aangenomen waarmee het Leenstelsel voor studenten een feit is. Hierover heeft de landelijke media uitvoerig verslag gedaan. Via www.duo.nl kun je jezelf informeren over de eventuele gevolgen voor jouw studiefinanciering. Mocht het je via DUO niet duidelijk zijn wat de gevolgen zijn voor jouw studiefinanciering, dan kun je altijd contact zoeken met een studentendecaan van de RUG, te bereiken via www.rug.nl/ssc.

Voor studenten die in september 2015 met een masteropleiding bij de RUG willen starten, kan het financieel interessant zijn om zich al per 1 augustus 2015 voor de masteropleiding in te schrijven, in plaats van per 1 september 2015. De instroommomenten voor de FWN-masteropleidingen staan genoemd op http://www.rug.nl/education/...chrijven/harde-knip-maatregel We proberen de masterinschrijving voor 1 augustus 2015 zoveel mogelijk in goede (administratieve) banen te leiden. Last Movienight the ActiviTee started a continious Bingo! The idea behind this bingo is that every ActiviTee activity we will draw some numbers (or a wildcard) which you can cross off your bingo card if you were at the activity. The first one who gets a bingo wins a nice price!

For those who were there but forgot the rules and for those who weren't at the movienight but still want to join, the rules:

1. There is no fee for a bingocard ;)
2. You can only cross of numbers you got at activities you visited. The borrels will be 'free', meaning that the numbers we draw for the borrel can be used by anyone.
3. Wildcards can be used on any number, even numbers from activities you missed.
4. When you have bingo you should mail the ActiviTee (or say it at the activity where you got bingo). We will try to confirm it as soon as possible and when it is you will get a price.
5. The game doesn't stop after a bingo. We will play multiple games using the same cards.
6. False bingo's are punishable. Depending on how wrong you are the ActiviTee will think of a suiting punishment.
7. Cheating is (obviously) not allowed.

For the first round we are playing for a horizontal bingo. Next rounds are updated here.

The GA minutes of 10th of December are online. You can find them on the SD. An English summary will be available before the next GA.
The most important issues of this GA were the Moment of Constitution and that the next GA will be held in English. So we hope to see you there.

At February 10th, the BBD PRe-conference with a very famous guest will happen at the Bernoulliborg, room 0151 at 19:00 – 22:00, followed by a social where you might have a toast with this celebrity.

We would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

As you might have noticed, we have a new borrel location! This is because the Ome Ko didn't really fit to our wishes...

The new location is the Tapperij, which will be private till one o'clock. Drinks will cost only 1 euro until one o'clock and after that only 1,50. The borrel will be held at every first Wednesday of the month, like we were used to. At our first borrel of 2015, there will be 100 free beers! This first borrel will be held at the 7th of January. We hope you will come join us and will like this new location.

They asked us if we could come up with an object to decorate their walls. If you have a brilliant idea what to give them, let us know (board@svcover.nl)!

Coming Wednesday, the second General Assembly of this year will be held. On this meeting, you can join the discussion about important topics for the association and influence the direction in which Cover goes.
On this GA, (among other things) we will discuss the time plan for the appointment of the new board. Also the spoken language of the following GAs is debated.

As you might know, the auction we held during the Member Weekend yielded a very nice amount of money. We have used this to buy a new TV and the brand new Super Smash Bros for our Wii U! This means that you can now play Super Smash with 8 people* in the CACHE!

Our Dreamspark Premium access has been restored! If you need a free copy of Microsoft Windows or other Microsoft software during your studies, log in on the Cover website and click on the Dreamspark link in the Members menu.

We're happy to announce that we finally have a new borrel location: Café Ome Ko!
Beer, soda and wine will cost only 1 euro until 1 o'clock. There will also be some free 'bitterballen' (a Dutch snack) and the first 25 beers will be for free! So be on time to get one of these. The borrels will start, as usual, at half past nine.
While planning the new dates, we tried to keep the exam periods in mind. Also, Ome Ko is very popular on Wednesday, so the borrel can no longer be at the first Wednesday of the month. The borreldates of this year are:

- Tuesday 20 January
- Tuesday 24 February
- Tuesday 31 March
- Thursday 23 April
- Tuesday 26 May
- Tuesday 30 June

There isn't a borrel in December, because there is already an the end-of-the-year party in December. This party will be organized by the ActiviTee, and will take place at a different location.

On the 21st of August, the WebCie performed some server maintenance during which all the committee accounts were moved to a new server. If you experience any issues, contact the WebCie through webcie@svcover.nl or through one of its members.

On wednesday 25th of June Friso bouw will start redecorating and rebuilding parts of the ground floor of the Bernoulliborg. They will continue till the `bouwvak', the summer break for the building industry.

One of the changes that does affect us will is that we will get a proper door during this period and a small piece of carpet. We should not be affected or have any annoyances due to the other construction activities.

The SLACK will be closed on monday 19th and tuesday 20th of May due to it being a mess. The SLACKcie and the board will be packing things on the 19th and on the 20th of May we will move all the stuff to the new room. Because of this the SLACK won't be the ideal place to work or socialize during those days.

On wednesday the 21st you are more than welcome in our new room which we will officially open on the 22th during the Housewarming new Cover room event.

Unfortunately, the board has to announce that this year there won't be a member weekend.

We tried to book the same location as last year but due to a communication error this failed. We were also exploring options of having a member weekend on Ameland or Schiermonnikoog but none offered a place that met our requirements on availability, space and price. Eventually we tried every location we could find in Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe but all of them are already fully booked, too expensive or too small.

As a last resort we have looked at locations just across the German border. Eventually, we found a place, but the location was so unfortunate traveling from and to it would be prohibitively expensive and time consuming. In that weekend the PiraCie sailing weekend would also take place and we chose to not let a weak version of member weekend overlap with their activity.

We have an important update regarding the Cover room. It can be found at updates.svcover.nl.

As some people may have heard, the 2014 LAN-party with Infrec/NGI has been cancelled. This (weggeknipt: means) is due to various circumstances, most of which are external. This doesn't mean the Infrec/LanCie cooperation has been suspended altogether. We will be joining forces with Infrec next year in order to successfully supply you with an awesome LAN event with plenty of gaming, workshops and interesting resources for young professionals like yourself.

The 2014 LAN-party will still be held, but organised only by the Cover LanCie. This LAN-party has been moved to the weekend starting on May 23rd.

Zoals sommigen misschien al was opgevallen, is er iets vreemds aan de hand met de deadline van de puzzel in de nieuwe editie van de Brainstorm: die was namelijk al verstreken voor hij op de mat lag. Bij dezen willen we dan ook graag eenieder erop wijzen dat de deadline voor het insturen van de juiste oplossing van de puzzel niet 1 juni, maar 1 juli is. Veel puzzel- en leesplezier gewenst!

Helaas is het FacFeest van vanavond afgelast. Dit is vanwege de tegenvallende belangstelling. De mensen die al een kaartje hebben gekocht, krijgen uiteraard hun geld terug! Hierover zal binnenkort contact met jullie worden opgenomen.

Om de discussie rondom de boetes van het Antwerpen-reisje te bespoedigen hebben het bestuur en de StudCie een extra begeleidend stuk toegevoegd. Wij hopen dat iedereen nog in staat zal zijn deze te lezen. Tevens hebben we voor het gemak van de secties uit de notulen van de afgelopen twee ALVs betreffende deze discussies hier ook even bij gezet.

Onze excuses voor het relatief laat toevoegen van deze stukken.

Af en toe wil het helaas wel eens gebeuren dat er iets misgaat met de server. Het meest tekenende symptoom hiervan is dat onze prachtige site deels of helemaal niet functioneert. Nu waarderen wij het heel erg als mensen zo vriendelijk zijn ons hierover op de hoogte te stellen, maar het is nogal lastig om er iets mee te doen als de mail niet aankomt. In de regel mag je er namelijk van uitgaan dat als de website het niet doet, alle @svcover.nl-adressen ook niet werken. Mail in dit soort situaties dan ook niet naar webcie@svcover.nl, maar naar webcie@ai.rug.nl.

Mocht je ons op andere momenten om andere redenen willen bereiken, mail dan gewoon naar ons svcover-adres. Mail je met een vraag, dan zou je ook eerst eens op http://webcie.svcover.nl kunnen kijken. Daar staan al veel antwoorden klaar.

De flirtcursus van dinsdag 7 mei gaat helaas niet door. De MeisCie vindt dit heel erg jammer, maar we hopen volgend jaar wel een mooie flirtcursus neer te kunnen zetten.

De Hints Stafdimbo van 26-03 wordt verplaatst. De staf kan er namelijk niet bij zijn vanwege een proefvisitatie die pas sinds kort bekend is. De nieuwe datum volgt zo snel mogelijk.

Aanstaande vrijdag (15 februari) vanaf 9.00 uur 's ochtends plegen wij enig onderhoud aan Alan, onze server. Hierdoor zal de site tijdelijk niet bereikbaar zijn en komen mailtjes die naar een svcover-adres worden gestuurd later aan. Bij voorbaat excuses voor eventueel ongemak, we zullen proberen het tot een minimum te beperken.

In verband met de ExCiereis naar Zweden zullen Lotte en Arnoud de komende tijd afwezig zijn. Voor de vragen die je normaal aan hun zou stellen zul je dus in die tijd even bij de andere bestuursleden moeten zijn :)

Om te voorkomen dat er belangrijke dingen gemist worden zal ook hun mail doorgestuurd worden naar het bestuur, dus jullie kunnen nog wel gewoon mailen naar secretaris- en intern@svcover.nl

Dinsdag 29 januari hebben we een activiteit met Procam. We zullen dan met hen in de keuken van de Euroborg gezamelijk koken. Onder leiding van de Actie gaan we een drie gangen diner opzetten en onder elkaars gezelschap nuttigen. Deze activiteit vindt plaats vanaf 18:00. Er is in principe plaats voor 12 extra personen. Wil jij samen koken met Procam en genieten van een heerlijk diner? Schrijf je dan zo snel mogelijk in door een mailtje te sturen naar actie@svcover.nl. Doe dit voor zondag 27 januari 23:59.

Hey iedereen!
Ik heb net van een aantal activiteiten de kruisjes gezet die jullie hebben weggedronken dus het zou kunnen dat je minder kruisjes hebt dan je zou in eerste instantie dacht! Niet schrikken :)

Het bestuur krijgt regelmatig verzoekjes van andere verenigingen of wij, als ICT-vereniging, nog mensen hebben die hun website kunnen onderhouden.

Mocht je hierin geïnteresseerd zijn laat het dan even aan ons weten, en dan laten wij je weten wanneer er weer eens iets langs komt!

Er zijn weer stickers! Als je stickers nodig hebt, kijk dan even in de Foetsiekast, of vraag ze aan het bestuur :)

Helaas hebben wij in verband met een algehele prijsstijging bij de Makro de prijs van de kruisjes met 5 cent op moeten hogen. Kruisjes kosten voortaan dus 55 cent. Dit is natuurlijk nog steeds geen geld voor een lekker blikje fris of broodje rookworst!

Het is alweer een tijdje geleden (exact een maand, om precies te zijn), maar we hebben een nieuw bestuur!

Het bestuur is als volgt geconstitueerd:

De Coveragenda, hier links, is onderhand wat langer geworden. Daardoor kan je eerder zien welke toffe activiteiten er binnenkort op het programma staan!
Er zijn ook vaak activiteiten van zusterverenigingen of andere instanties die er niet echt tussenpassen. Daarom kan je op dit forumgedeelte zien welke activiteiten er binnenkort door het hele land plaatsvinden.

Onze in '93 opgerichte vereniging wordt alweer negentien jaar en dat kan natuurlijk niet zonder de nodige activiteiten! De Actie gaat al vroeg van start met het zwaardvechten en overdag krijgt de Coverkamer een feestelijk tintje. Kom dan ook gezellig langs voor een stukje taart en vier het met ons mee!

Cover eet nooit alleen, zeker niet op de dies! We gaan, om de avond goed te beginnen, eten bij Pappa Joe's te Gelkingestraat 50 om 19.00. Opgave is verplicht en moet voor 19 september 23.59! Als je je niet opgeeft kun je niet mee dus zorg dat je op tijd bent, want we hebben plek voor 45 mensen en op dit moment nog 8 plekken over. Opgeven doe je via dies.svcover.nl. Even opletten: burgers kunnen altijd, wil je iets anders eten, moet je dat bij je opgave aangeven.

Natuurlijk is een Dies niks zonder een goed feestje en daarom hebben we in de avond een goed feestje! De avond begint om 21.30 op de begane grond van het gebouw waar Pulse(vroeger Klup) en Shadrak in zitten (Peperstraat 19). We hebben onze eigen DJ en natuurlijk is er die avond ook verrukkelijke taart. Daarnaast is er direct om 21.30 een beperkte hoeveelheid gratis bier. Zorg dus dat je op tijd komt!

Er is iets fout gegaan bij de mail over commisie's die leden zoeken. Het LanCie stukje is daardoor niet geworden wat het moest zijn. Hier is het goede bericht:

LAN-Party & LanCie
Het collegejaar is weer begonnen en voor we het door hebben is het eerste kwartaal alweer om en begint de temperatuur weer behoorlijk te dalen. Zodra deze tijd aanbreekt duiken we allemaal natuurlijk het liefst ellendig lang achter ons computertje om tot diep in de nacht te gamen. Om in deze broodnodige wens te voorzien organiseert de LanCie ook deze herfst weer een supergave LAN-party. Heb jij zin om te komen gamen (op de computer, of andere platforms), vakantiefoto's te delen, gezellig te chillen met studiegenoten of studiegenoten (hun nickname) te leren kennen houdt dan de agenda in de gaten want de eerste LAN van dit collegejaar komt er weer aan!

Na het enorm goed organiseren van vele awesome LANs (waarvoor grote dank, namens velen) is Wilco deze zomer afgestudeerd en weggefragged uit de LanCie. Zodoende is er een plek vrijgekomen in onze commissie. Maar, zoals de gezegde luidt, na bloedregen komt een respawn, en betekent dit dat er een plek open is binnen onze commissie. Dus lijkt het je leuk om mee te werken bij het organiseren en onderhouden van een LAN-party laat het ons dan weten en stuur voor 24 september een mailtje naar lancie@svcover.nl en licht daarin kort je motivatie toe en wat je er van verwacht!

Het introkamp is geweest en de colleges zijn weer begonnen! Het is vakantie! Dat kan je niet ontgaan zijn. Een enkeling ergert zich nog aan de vele vakantiefoto's die Facebook kleuren, maar zij zullen ook binnenkort de Coverkamer voor de laatste keer verlaten dit collegejaar.
De laatste nieuwsbrief, dombo en borrel zijn alweer geweest: tijd voor een beetje vakantie! Geniet van je verre bestemmmingen, die enkele games die je nog een tijdje had liggen en veel plezier deze zomermaanden!

Wegens het slechte weer zal de EJC activiteit van dinsdag niet doorgaan.
In de plaats daarvan zullen we een andere activiteit voor jullie organiseren!
We gaan nu met z'n allen indoor paintballen bij Outdoor International. Dit is gelegen aan de Ulgeramaweg 22 te Groningen. Er kunnen maximaal 20 mensen mee doen. De eigen bijdrage bedraagt 10 euro afhankelijk van het aantal deelnemers. We hopen zoveel mogelijk mensen dinsdag om 13:45 bij Outdoor International te zien!

Commissieleden komen en gaan en voor dat eerste hebben we jou nodig! Er zijn plekken in de Promotie, de BoekCie, de WebCie en de StudCie! Lijkt het je leuk om een keer posters voor Cover te ontwerpen en te verspreiden, de boekenverkoop te regelen, een paar toffe lezingen neer te zetten of te knutselen aan een nieuwe website? Neem dan contact op met de intern op intern@svcover.nl, de deadline hiervoor is 11 juni! Daarna is het: first come, first serve.

Lijkt het jou ook leuk om als bedrijfshulpverlener op te treden bij die ene barbecue waar het eventjes misgaat, te weten hoe je een brandje moet blussen of hoe je eerste hulp moet toepassen? Dan is dit iets interessants voor jou! Dankzij de vergoeding van de universiteit en Cover kan je deze cursus gratis volgen, zodat je tijdens enkele grote activiteiten kan toezien op de veiligheid. De Coveragenda, hier links, is onderhand wat langer geworden. Daardoor kan je eerder zien welke toffe activiteiten er binnenkort op het programma staan!
Er zijn ook vaak activiteiten van zusterverenigingen of andere instanties die er niet echt tussenpassen. Daarom kan je op dit forumgedeelte zien welke activiteiten er binnenkort door het hele land plaatsvinden.

Er is de afgelopen week van bovenaf geklaagd over geluidsoverlast veroorzaakt door ons. Daarnaast is er ook geklaagd over de grote hoeveelheid afwas die wij altijd voor onze kamer in de gemeenschappelijke ruimte hebben staan.

Wij willen iedereen dan ook oproepen om de deuren van de kamer wat vaker dicht te houden, op je volume te letten en daarnaast echt je borden en glazen af te wassen op het moment dat je iets gebruikt.

Op 17,18,19,24,25 en 26 april vindt College Carrousel plaats. Voor dit evenement wordt gezocht naar vrijwilligers.

VWO 4 scholieren met het NT profiel komen deze dagen langs voor een informatief programma, waarbij studieverenigingen het middagdeel verzorgen. Van 13.30 tot 15.00 zoeken we mensen die tegen vergoeding van ¤15,= per middag groepjes scholieren willen begeleiden bij science linx of korte presentaties geven, hier word je natuurlijk op voorbereid. Je kunt je voor meerdere middagen opgeven en zo ook meer geld verdienen. Je kunt er zelfs voor kiezen om de hele dag werkzaam te zijn, dit levert je ¤35,= per dag op.

Binnenkort staat het jaarlijks SNiC symposium weer voor de deur! We vertrekken om 7:30 vanaf Centraal Station naar de Jaarbeurshallen te Utrecht.
Na ontvangst met koffie en thee, begint het symposium en kan je praatjes verwachten over o.a. de Turing Test, Quantum Computing, Biocomputing en The Game of Life.

De hele dag is verzorgd: je kan de hele dag door koffie en thee halen en tussen de middag genieten van een luxe lunch. 's Avonds is er een borrel gevolgd door een diner en daarna vertrekken we weer richting Groningen.

Kaartjes zijn verkrijgbaar bij bestuur en kosten slechts ¤7,50. Deze kaartjes moet je na aanschaf nog wel activeren op de website.

Kortom een toffe, informatieve dag met genoeg versnaperingen, komt allen!

21 februari is het weer tijd voor het jaarlijkse alfabetfeest. Samen met 16 andere verenigingen zetten wij weer een van de mooiste feesten van het jaar neer. Dit jaar zal het alfabetfeest plaatsvinden in Kokomo Beach Club.

Kaartjes voor dit mooie feest kosten in de voorverkoop 3 euro en aan de deur 5 euro. Vanaf vandaag zijn de kaartjes te koop bij het bestuur, dus wees er snel bij en zorg dat ook jij samen met ons een mooi feestje gaat vieren de 21ste.

De Actie en de MeisCie presenteren dit jaar samen het eindfeest: een Blacklightparty!

Wij zullen voor blacklight bodypaint zorgen waar je ter plekke mee mag kliederen. Hou rekening met je kleding: witte kleding zal erg opvallen onder een blacklight, met zwarte kleding aan zal alleen de verf op je lichaam/gezicht te zien zijn smile.gif.

Kom dus allemaal naar deze spetterende jaarafsluiting! Het wordt een groot feest, inclusief een mooie hoeveelheid gratis drank.

Op 15 december zal weer het Coversymposium plaats vinden. Dit jaar zal het symposium in het teken staan van "Hacking".

Hacking is een breed begrip en zo pakken we het ook aan!
Op het symposium belichten we technische, juridische en ethische aspecten van hacking. Ook zal er 's middags een workshop gegeven worden door Sogeti.

Zoals sommigen van jullie misschien al hebben gemerkt, is er bij PostNL iets goed misgegaan tijdens het verzenden van de ledenpassen en de uitnodiging voor de ALV van 3 november.

Door, naar wij vermoeden, een fout in het sorteersysteem, is bij veel enveloppen een verkeerde postcode rechtsonder geprint door PostNL, aan de hand waarvan zij de post weer bezorgen. Dit kan er toe leiden dat de post voor jou bij een ander Coverlid terecht is gekomen.

Hoe we dit precies gaan oplossen indien nodig is nog niet duidelijk, maar we houden jullie op de hoogte!

Zet 4 oktober nu in je agenda, want dan barsten we los in Huize Maas. Trek je strakste dierenpak uit de kast en beleef een avond in de Ark van Noach! De Conditie

Het komende academisch jaar laat niet meer lang op zich wachten en dat betekent dat er weer een nieuwe voor de deur staat. Zoals elk jaar beginnen we het nieuwe jaar met een introductiekamp voor alle nieuwe eerstejaars. Om ons te helpen, om de nieuwe eerstejaars wat beter te leren kennen of om gewoon een weekendje lol te hebben is het voor ouderejaars natuurlijk ook mogelijk om mee te gaan. Dus eerstejaars of ouderejaars, schrijf je nu in op www.introcie.nl! Op deze site kun je ook meer informatie vinden omtrent de kosten en t.z.t. over de exacte planning e.d.

De laatste tijd ging het niet zo goed met de PC's in de coverkamer. Er gingen er steeds meer stuk en als er dan een werkende PC stond moest deze dienst gaan doen als server omdat de oude server er
mee op hield. Dit probleem is nu opgelost!
Bossers&Cnossen (http://www.bnc.nl), één van de grootste hardware leveranciers voor de non-profit en de (groot) zakelijke markt in het noorden van Nederland, heeft ons drie nieuwe PC's gegeven.
Bossers&Cnossen is het bedrijf waarmee Cover voor de LAN al een leuke samenwerking had en nu wordt deze samenwerking dus uitgebreid.
Naast de PC's hebben we ook voor elke PC een extra harde schijf gekregen. Met deze harde schijven heeft de PCie dual-boot machines gemaakt zodat programmas die niet (zo makkelijk) onder linux draaien ook gebruikt kunnen worden.
Met deze drie nieuwe PC's zal het voor leden makkelijker zijn om te werken in de Coverkamer als ze geen laptop hebben. Ook commissies kunnen weer goed werken, zeker nu er ook de mogelijkheid is tot het gebruiken van programmas voor windows.

Het jaar is weer bijna voorbij en dus zit de grote LALA er weer aan te komen. Vrijdag 1 juli is het zover. Het bedankje aan iedereen die in een commissie zit en heeft bijgedragen aan alle activiteiten van dit jaar, die onze mooie vereniging heeft neergezet.

We gaan dit jaar (zoals gebruikelijk) BBQ'en bij de Hoornse Plas. Tijd en locatie zijn te vinden in de agenda.

Zit je nog niet in een commissie, maar zou je wel mee willen helpen om leuke dingen voor de vereniging te organiseren? Er zijn altijd genoeg commissies op zoek naar versterking. Mail in dit geval het bestuur en dan ben jij er op de volgende LALA ook bij!

Samen met "Tapasco" heeft Cover een leuke actie voor onze leden. Tot en met 31 maart krijgen Coverleden bij "Tapasco" 10 euro korting op 2 uur lang onbeperkt tapas eten van een speciale kaart.

Dit betekent dat je onbeperkt tapas kunt eten voor 14,75 in plaats van 24,75!

Op vertoon van je Cover ledenpas kun je lekker gaan eten bij dit tapas restaurant in de Haddingedwarsstraat. Het bestuur is er al eens wezen eten en het is echt de moeite waard.

Deze actie loopt tot en met 31 maart en geldt van zondag tot en met woensdag. (Dus niet op donderdag, vrijdag en zaterdag) Op vertoon van je ledenpas mag je met 3 introducees eten. Vermeld bij je reservering dat je komt voor de actie van Cover.

Ben je benieuwd naar de speciale kaart? Die komt als bijlage met de nieuwsbrief mee, dus hou je inbox in de gaten.

Vandaag zal de Coverkamer worden opgeruimd, waardoor het niet mogelijk is hier te gaan zitten smashen of werken. Ook de gemeenschappelijke ruimte voor de kamer zal in beperkte mate te gebruiken zijn.

Eten of drinken halen en het opwarmen van rookworst kan uiteraard wel.

Het BBD bestuur is op zoek naar enthousiaste mensen die hen willen helpen met het promoten van bovenstaand evenement onder Coveraars. Lijkt het jou leuk om naar dit event te gaan en je er voor in te zetten veel andere mensen mee te krijgen, mail dan naar bestuur@svcover.nl dat dit je leuk lijkt.

Deze functie hoeft helemaal niet veel tijd te kosten en levert je ook nog eens leuke dingen op. Zo krijg je als lid van de BBD commissie een t-shirt en een gezellig etentje waar je het BBD bestuur en de andere commissieleden leert kennen. Wanneer het je dan ook nog eens lukt om mensen van zich via jou in te laten schrijven, kun je (afhankelijk van het aantal mensen) een mok, een tijdschriftenbon, saunabezoek en andere leuke dingen winnen.

Op 22 en 23 maart vinden de Bèta Bedrijvendagen (BBD) weer plaats. Deze zullen ook dit jaar weer gehouden worden in Het Kasteel in Groningen.

Deze dagen zijn er voor bedoeld om studenten in contact te brengen met bèta georiënteerde bedrijven en zijn erg geschikt als je je wilt oriënteren op de arbeidsmarkt, op zoek bent naar een stageplek of gewoon benieuwd bent naar wat verschillende bedrijven zoal doen. Ook zullen er workshops en cases gehouden worden en is er een stand die je advies geeft over hoe je je CV zou kunnen verbeteren.

Op beide dagen is er een dagvullend programma beginnend met een ontbijt om 8:00, een luxe lunch tussen de middag en als afsluiting een uitgebreide borrel waar je heerlijk kan netwerken. Kortom twee leerzame dagen vol interessante bedrijven en cases. Komen dus!

Zoals jullie vast niet ontgaan is, wil het nieuwe kabinet flink gaan bezuinigen op het hoger onderwijs. Onderdeel hiervan is het plan om studenten die langer dan 1 jaar langer dan nominaal studeren een boete van 3000 euro op te leggen. Maar naast nadelig voor studenten, zijn deze plannen ook zeer nadelig voor universiteiten, medezeggenschap en studieverenigingen.

Daarom zal er aanstaande vrijdag (21 januari) om 13.00 uur een landelijke demonstratie op het Malieveld in Den Haag plaatsvinden. De universiteit heeft deze dag vrij geroosterd van colleges en spoort studenten aan om naar Den Haag te gaan om te demonstreren. Daarom heeft het College van Bestuur bussen beschikbaar gesteld die studenten gratis van en naar Den Haag brengen. Om mee te kunnen met een bus kun je je opgeven via http://groningen.metdebusnaardenhaag.nl/

Omdat ook Cover het niet eens is met de flinke bezuinigingen die het kabinet wil doorvoeren, gaat ook het Coverbestuur vrijdag naar Den Haag, samen met een ieder van jullie die ook vindt dat er juist geinvesteerd zou moeten worden in het hoger onderwijs!

Het bestuur van Cover wil jullie allemaal fijne kerstdagen en een gelukkig 2011 toewensen.

Het event van 30 november gaat jammer genoeg niet door.
Vanwege te weinig inschrijvingen heeft Microsoft het event van morgen helaas afgelast. We hopen dat de mensen die er zin in hadden niet al te teleurgesteld zijn door deze domper zo vlak van tevoren en er niet te veel moeite is gedaan om erbij te kunnen zijn.

Op 30 november zal Cover in samenwerking met Microsoft een lezing organiseren over het nieuwe mobiele platform, Windows Phone 7. De spreker is Matthijs Hoekstra. Matthijs is dicht betrokken bij Windows Phone 7, is erg thuis in de development tools en kent alle ins-en outs omtrent dit platform.

Natuurlijk is er na afloop een gratis borrel waar je nog even heerlijk na kunt praten met je studiegenootjes en de spreker(s).

Het nieuwe bestuur heeft als thema Stabiliteit. Omdat we het 19e bestuur zijn zoeken we een leuke tekst horende bij het acroniem "XIX" of "ksiks". Deze tekst moet aansluiten bij het thema. Inzendingen kunnen worden gestuurd naar bestuur@svcover.nl. De leukste inzending zullen wij belonen met een taart.

Op maandag 25 oktober hebben wij onze constitutieborrel in café 't Pleidooi en deze zal zijn tussen 17:00 en 19:00. Hier zullen de besturen van broertjes en zusjes en oud besturen ons komen feliciteren met onze constitutie. Na afloop gaan we eten met hen die dat leuk vinden. Zowel op de borrel als bij het eten na afloop zijn leden ook van harte welkom. In principe feliciteren de besturen tijdens de borrel. Leden kunnen als er tijd over is ook het bestuur feliciteren en dit anders tijdens het eten of na afloop daarvan doen.

De vereniging bestaat vandaag 17 jaar!
Er zal de hele dag taart aanwezig zijn in de Coverkamer en 's avonds zal het feest losbarsten in jazzcafé de Spieghel!

Wij zijn op zoek naar actieve en enthousiaste studenten die hun academische vaardigheden willen gebruiken om middelbare scholieren te helpen. Tijdens de StafDimbo (DInsdagMiddagBOrrel) heb je die mogelijkheid! Dus kom dus dinsdag 14-9 tussen 4 en 6 gezellig langs in de Coverkamer!

Elke dinsdag is een groepje dat een stukje gaat hardlopen. We beginnen samen met inlopen en rekken. Daarna wordt een rondje gelopen, een wat kleiner rondje voor beginners en een grotere ronde voor de wat meer getrainde lopers. Onder leiding van Tjeerd Andringa wordt er in de zomer van 2011 een Summer School gehouden voor buitenlandse KI en Informatica studenten.

Om dit project op te zetten en in goede banen te leiden, zoek ik gezellige, actieve commissieleden die samen met mij het sociale deel van het programma willen opzetten. Als commissielid zorg je er o.a. voor dat we een goede groep buitenlandse studenten selecteren en dat zij Nederland op een leuke manier leren kennen!
Je doet op deze manier organisatorische ervaring op, je ontwikkelt een groot netwerk van buitenlandse studenten binnen je eigen studiegebied en je zal een unieke en vooral gezellige tijd tegemoet gaan.

Op het moment bestaat de commissie al uit vijf studenten en is er nog ruimte voor 2 of 3 extra studenten.
Als je nog geen enkele ervaring hebt wat betreft commissies is dat geen probleem.
Elke functie wordt door twee studenten vervuld waardoor je elkaar kunt helpen.

Binnen de commissie zal er plek zijn voor de volgende functies:

Penningmeester: Deze personen maken de begroting, controleren de betalingen van de deelnemers en helpen eventueel met het aanvragen van sponsoren.
Sociale Commissie, SoCo: Deze personen organiseren de etentjes en alle andere leuke activiteiten voor de deelnemers wanneer deze in Groningen zijn. Ze zorgen ervoor dat het niet alleen een educatieve, maar ook vooral een hele gezellige tijd wordt met z'n allen.
PR: Deze personen ontwerpen het logo, de poster en de flyers die naar het buitenland gestuurd moeten worden. Ook zoekt deze persoon naar gadgets voor in de goody bags van de deelnemers.

Aankomende donderdag geeft dr. Henry Prakken een lezing over Argumentatie.

De abstract:
Iedereen argumenteert: politici, juristen, wetenschappers, stamgasten, … In de AI en het onderzoek naar multi-agentsystemen is er daarom steeds meer aandacht voor argumentatie.

Argumentatie heeft twee kanten: een redeneer- en een dialoogkant. Een rechter die zijn beslissing in een vonnis motiveert, formuleert een redenering. Die redenering is doorgaans niet logisch dwingend en daarom besteedt een goede rechter ook aandacht aan de weerlegging van tegenargumenten. In dit praatje bespreek ik logica’s voor dit soort argumentatief redeneren.

Ook een politicus die haar voorstellen verdedigt in een debat moet ingaan op tegenargumenten. Een debat kan gezien worden als een spel, met spelregels, en winnaars en verliezers. In dit praatje bespreek ik hoe de dialoogkant van argumentatie gemodelleerd kan worden met behulp van onder meer speltheorie.

Het academisch jaar zit er al bijna op dus we zijn weer druk op zoek naar een nieuw bestuur. Wil jij de vereniging een jaar lang leiden, een hoop ervaring opdoen, een hoop plezier beleven en een mooi punt voor op je CV hebben? Solliciteer dan voor een positie in het 19e bestuur!

Wil jij je stem laten horen? Wil je echt verschil maken? Solliciteer dan nu naar de functie van FB'er (studentlid van het faculteitsbestuur). Dé kans om het studentenbelang binnen de faculteit te laten gelden! Het bestuur is belast met de algemene leiding van de faculteit en met de inrichting van de faculteit voor het onderwijs en onderzoek. Het student-lid vertegenwoordigt de belangen van de studenten in het bestuur.

De inspanningen als student-lid in het faculteitsbestuur vergen ca. 35 uur per week en worden gecompenseerd met een aanstelling van 2 dagen per week bij de universiteit, vacatiegelden en 6 maanden bestuursbeurs. Dit komt neer op circa 1100 euro per maand, bruto.

Altijd al meer informatie willen hebben over de bedrijven waar Cover mee samenwerkt? Sinds enige tijd is er daarvoor de Bedrijvenpagina op de Coversite. (in het menu te vinden onder "Bedrijven") Hier kun je informatie vinden over wat een bedrijf doet en hoe je contact met ze op kunt nemen.

Vind je het leuk om bijles te geven en om een kamp te organiseren voor middelbare scholieren, dan is Anderwijs op zoek naar jou. Ze organiseren al bijna 25 jaar bijspijkerkampen voor scholieren tijdens de schoolvakanties.

Ze zijn op zoek naar enthousiaste leiding voor bijspijkerkampen. Wat ze te bieden hebben:
- Ervaring op doen met organiseren van kampen en begeleiden van jongeren
- Mogelijkheid tot het behalen van EC's
- Leren werken in een team
- Een leuk en leerzaam kamp samen met andere studenten
- Een goede referentie voor op je CV
- En natuurlijk veel gezelligheid!

Als leiding krijg je vooraf aan een kamp een training, zodat je goed voorbereid op kamp gaat. Tijdens de training leer je andere kampleiders kennen en wordt er aandacht besteed aan het bijspijkeren, teambuilding, groepsprocessen en nog veel meer.

De Landelijke Studenten Vakbond (LSVb) is op zoek naar een nieuw bestuur voor het jaar 2010-2011. Als bestuurder spreek je regelmatig met politici zoals minister Plasterk en Tweede Kamerleden, ben je zichtbaar in kranten, op radio en TV en heb je contact met organisaties zoals de HBO-raad, de Vereniging van Universiteiten, de IB-Groep en het ministerie OCW. Daarnaast ben je verantwoordelijk voor de dagelijkse gang van zaken en stuur je de medewerkers aan. Een bestuursjaar is een unieke en leerzame ervaring waarbij je op landelijk niveau werkzaam bent. Vanaf komende donderdag zal er een wekelijkse Dombo (donderdagmiddagborrel) plaatsvinden. Het ideale moment om even gezellig bij elkaar te komen de stress van de week tot nu van je af te schudden en te zorgen dat je stressloos vrijdags aan je college kan beginnen.

De Dombo begint om 16.00 er gaat door tot we er met z'n allen genoeg van hebben. Natuurlijk mag je ook gewoon eventjes langskomen ;)

De SLACKcie

Ben jij een student met het hart op de juiste plek? Heb je altijd al mensen willen helpen, maar weet je niet zo goed hoe? Dan is de Rode Kruis Studentendesk wat voor jou! Wij zijn een actieve, enthousiaste groep studenten die de meest uiteenlopende projecten organiseert voor verschillende doelgroepen. Hierbij proberen we zoveel mogelijk studenten in te zetten als vrijwilliger. Kijk om een goed beeld te krijgen van de activiteiten van de Studentendesk eens op groningen.studentendesks.nl!

Als bestuurder ben je bezig met het bedenken en uitvoeren van projecten, het leggen van contacten in het bedrijfsleven en het studentenleven, het onderhouden van contacten binnen het Rode Kruis en nog veel meer. Het kost je ongeveer 8-10 uur in de week en is dus prima te combineren met een studie. We zijn op zoek naar 3 nieuwe bestuurders die zich per februari 2010 een jaar lang in kunnen en willen zetten. Er komen drie functies vrij, waaronder die van Secretaris en twee PR-functies.

Ben je geïnteresseerd in een bestuursfunctie? Stuur dan uiterlijk 22 januari een mail met hierin je motivatie, voorkeur voor een functie en je CV naar studentendeskgroningen@redcross.nl. Je hoort dan of je uitgenodigd wordt voor de sollicitatie, die plaats zal vinden op maandag 25 januari of dinsdag 26 januari.

Sinds vandaag doet de Coverserver het weer. Het probleem is waarschijnlijk veroorzaakt door een harde schijf die aan het einde van zijn levensduur was. De harde schijf is direct vervangen.
In tegenstelling tot wat we het vorige bericht zeiden is niet alle mail gebufferd. Sommige mail is niet aangekomen, in deze gevallen is er een bounce naar de afzender gestuurd.

Sinds 25 december is de CoverServer door een voor ons nog onbekende reden down. We hebben de website tijdelijk op een andere server gehost. Dit betekent dat accounts, websites van commissies en e-mails nog niet bereikbaar zijn. Er zijn back-ups gemaakt van alle bestanden en alle e-mails worden vastgehouden tot de CoverServer weer online is.
Aangezien de Bernoulliborg tot 4 januari gesloten is kunnen we tot maandag niets doen. We zullen maandag proberen de server weer zo snel mogelijk online te krijgen.

We wensen iedereen een fijne jaarwisseling!
De WebCie

Zoals jullie misschien gemerkt hebben, staat het Glazen Huis op de Grote Markt hier in Groningen. We hebben geprobeerd een leuke actie te verzinnen, maar dat leidde tot niets. Totdat we het er eens met Sjors over hadden en we samen bedachten dat we gewoon niet zo moeilijk moesten doen. We kunnen namelijk gewoon heel simpel een nummer dat op een bepaalde manier met Cover verbonden is aanvragen en onze leden vragen hier een bijdrage aan te leveren. Zelf dachten wij aan het nummer 'Narcotic' van Liquido, maar mochten er mensen zijn die een nummer beter bij Cover vinden passen, dan staan we open voor suggesties!

Wil jij ook je steentje bijdragen aan deze actie, reageer dan even op deze mededeling of stuur ons een mailtje met daarin vermeld wat voor bijdrage je wilt leveren en maak dit bedrag over op de rekening van Cover of teken na de vakantie even een machtiging. Hopelijk kunnen wij op deze manier ook een leuke bijdrage leveren aan dit mooie evenement!

PS: geef bij je overschrijving even aan dat het om een donatie voor het Glazen Huis gaat, dat scheelt de penningmeester een hele hoop werk!

Op 11 december zal het Coversymposium plaatsvinden. Het zal dit jaar gaan over de ontwikkeling van de IT-sector in de komende 20 jaar. Zo zal er bijvoorbeeld gekeken worden naar de ontwikkeling van de informatietechnologie en ook quantum computing komt aan bod. Tevens zal er gegeken worden naar de verwachtte veranderingen die organisaties in de komende 20 jaar zullen ondergaan en hoe bedrijven daar op in moeten springen. Het symposium is gratis, inclusief lunch! Meer informatie en het programma vind je hier.

Het Honours College (HC) biedt ambitieuze eerstejaars bachelorstudenten een extra uitdaging naast hun eigen studie.

Voor en door studenten
Het is een nieuw onderwijsprogramma dat universiteitsbreed voor een groot deel 'voor en door studenten' wordt aangeboden: ouderejaars HC-studenten begeleiden en organiseren activiteiten
voor de jongerejaars HC- studenten. Bovendien worden er geen tentamens afgenomen. Het Honours College past vernieuwende onderwijsvormen toe zoals multidisciplinaire en aantrekkelijke Honours College Tutorials georganiseerd door top-docenten van onze faculteit.

Je eigen project
Daarnaast kun je als HC-student in het eerste jaar een project (bijv. onderzoeksproject of een bedrijfje) starten en dat verder uitwerken in het tweede en derde jaar van zijn/haar HCprogramma. Zo'n project volgt een van de drie lijnen van het FWN-brede deel van het HCprogramma: commercieel, wetenschappelijk of maatschappelijk. In het universiteitsbrede deel van het HC-programma kun je een kijkje nemen bij andere faculteiten en daar zogeheten Honoursmodules volgen. Bij deze modules ontmoet je ook de gemotiveerde en excellente HCstudenten van de andere faculteiten van de RUG.

Informatiebijeenkomst
Een informatiebijeenkomst specifiek voor geinteresseerde studenten van de Faculteit Wiskunde en Natuurwetenschappen vindt plaats op 8 december 2009 van 12.00-13.00 in de Groene Zaal op het Biologisch Centrum in Haren en van 15.00-16.00 in de Faculty Room van de Bernoulliborg op Zernike.

De Beta Bedrijvendagen zijn 2 dagen in Maart waarop Beta's zich door lezingen, workshops en informatiemarkten op hun carriere kunnen orienteren. De organisatie hiervan ligt een handen van een commissie. Deze commissie is nog op zoek naar een aantal leden.

Afgelopen donderdag (9 juli) is de almanak uitgereikt op een feestelijke borrel. Maar natuurlijk was dit niet de enige mogelijkheid om je almanak te bemachtigen! Vanaf nu ligt er een stapel almanakken in de Coverkamer. Dus als jij nog geen almanak in je bezit hebt en wel dit prachtige, spetterende boekwerk wilt ontvangen, kom dan langs de Coverkamer!

Na vele maanden van hard werk is het dan eindelijk zover! De AlmanakCie heeft dit jaar zijn uiterste best gedaan om een mooie almanak in elkaar te zetten en het reslutaat is daar.

Op donderdag 9 juli gaan we dit vieren op de almanakuitreikingsborrel! Iedereen kan daar zijn of haar almanak op komen halen.

Op vrijdag 28 augustus vertrekken we vanuit Groningen naar kampeerboerderij de Harmsdobbe in Bakkeveen. We zullen hier per fiets heen gaan. Zoals elk jaar vindt er ook dit jaar weer een grote LALA (Leuke Actieve Leden Activiteit) plaats. Twee keer per jaar organiseert het bestuur een LALA om de actieve leden van Cover te bedanken voor hun bijdrage en inzet voor de vereniging.

Ook dit jaar gaan we weer lekker genieten van het mooie weer, we gaan met zijn allen barbecueën bij de Hoornse Plas. Kosten? GRATIS!!! Naast het barbecueën zal er de mogelijkheid zijn voor sportieve, dan wel niet sportieve, activiteiten.

Je kunt je opgeven door een mailtje naar het bestuur te sturen of door je in te schrijven op de inschrijflijst die op het prikbord bij de Coverkamer hangt (voor vegetariërs, vermeld er even bij dat je vegetariër bent).

Lijkt dit je wat? Kom dan op dinsdag 9 juni langs bij de Hoornse Plas (in het zuiden van Groningen). Vanaf 15:00 uur zal de boel opgebouwd worden en kun je dus langskomen. Eindtijd: 00.00 uur.

Zomaar een greep uit het veelzijdige programma van De Nacht van Kunst en Wetenschap, een uniek en gratis festival. Om 20.30 uur wordt de Nacht op de vismarkt geopend door minister Plasterk en vanaf dat moment kan er genoten worden van concerten, proefjes, cabaret, nachtelijke colleges, straattheater, tentoonstellingen, dans, film, rondleidingen en workshops. Voor sommige onderdelen is het wel even nodig om via de webiste een plek te reserveren, denk hierbij aan een workshop van Junkie XL of Giphart. Voor andere dingen geldt: vol is vol!

Het CIO-platform, een organisatie van grote bedrijven in Nederland, organiseert een groot tweedaags event onder de naam "strICTly for business".

Tijdens dit event strijden teams van studenten, young professionals, CIO's van grote bedrijven en een hoogleraar tegen elkaar met het oplossen van een real life business case.

Hoe?Zo! is een populair wetenschappelijke kennisquiz van Teleac waarin we wetenschappelijke feiten door middel van proefjes gaan testen. In iedere uitzending staan totaal verschillende experimenten op het programma. Eind mei beginnen de opnames weer en daarvoor zoeken wij publiek.

Ze zoeken nog veel enthousiaste mensen en misschien vinden jullie dit wel leuk om eens te doen.

De opnames vinden (o.v.b.) ’s avonds in Baarn plaats. Op 28-29 mei en 4-5-14 juni.

Al 16 jaar brengt de bètastuf de bètawijzer uit. In dit boekwerk geven studenten informatie en hun mening over vakken. Alle beta studies zijn in dit boekje vertegenwoordigd. Wanneer je een vak wilt volgen (bij een andere studie) kun je eenvoudig in dit boekje opzoeken wat het vak inhoudt en hoe andere studenten het vak ervaren hebben.

Helaas is deze doelstelling, door problemen met de drukkerij, dit jaar niet gehaald. De betawijzer is wel digitaal beschikbaar via http://www.betawijzer.nl.

De KEI-week is de grootste introductieweek van Nederland, waar bijna 4.000 deelnemers aan meedoen en zo’n 1.000 ouderejaars studenten bij betrokken zijn. Totaal zijn er zeven studenten, het Dagelijks Bestuur, fulltime bezig met de KEI-week. Dit is ongelofelijk leuk, maar ook erg veel werk. Daarom zoeken wij jou!

Vanaf mei hebben wij de hulp nodig van enthousiaste, daadkrachtige en stressbestendige Project Managers. Als Project Manager zul je het Dagelijks Bestuur bijstaan in de organisatie en invulling van evenementen voor de KEI-week. Van 10 t/m 14 augustus, tijdens de KEI-week zelf zul je de leiding krijgen over deze evenementen. Dit is niet voor niets een taak met grote verantwoordelijkheid!

Wat zijn de grenzen van het weten? Verschillende wetenschappers ontstijgen hun vakgebied op zoek naar de vraag waar de overeenkomsten en verschillen zitten tussen filosofie, godsdienstwetenschap en natuurwetenschap. 395 jaar geleden waren deze wetenschappen nog niet strikt gescheiden, maar zijn ze nu nog wel te combineren? Of is er niets veranderd en geldt nog steeds dat 'Arts Meet Science'?
Tijdens dit dagvullende symposium op donderdag 2 april worden de grenzen van ieders eigen vakgebied overgestoken. Studenten, medewerkers en andere belangstellenden van verschillende faculteiten komen bij elkaar om te zien wat hen bindt of juist van elkaar scheidt. In de ochtend zullen Groningse (wetenschaps)filosofen en theologen een inleiding geven in de relaties tussen de drie vakgebieden. 's Middags vertellen bekende wetenschappers van andere universiteiten, die in hun werk de grenzen van hun vakgebied opzoeken en daarbij de filosofie of theologie tegenkomen, hoe zij hier over denken. Tijdens de lunch en de afsluitende borrel is er natuurlijk volop ruimte voor discussie.

De Academische Jaarprijs biedt teams van studenten, promovendi en onderzoekers van Nederlandse universiteiten en andere publieke onderzoeksinstellingen de kans om op een niet alledaagse manier het belang van wetenschappelijk onderzoek naar buiten te brengen. Het team dat er naar oordeel van de deskundige jury het beste in slaagt om wetenschappelijk onderzoek te vertalen naar een breed publiek, wordt beloond met een hoofdprijs van 100.000 euro.

Dit jaar zal voor de derde keer de Groninger Debatwedstrijd worden gehouden. Deze wedstrijd, waarbij gedebatteerd wordt in Amerikaans Parlementaire vorm, wordt op 12 maart georganiseerd door de Studentenorganisatie Groningen (SOG), Erasmus Student Network Groningen (ESN), het Groninger Studentenplatform (GSp) en de Groninger Debating Society Kalliope. Tijdens deze wedstrijd, verdeeld in een Nederlands- en een Engelstalig deel, zullen teams van verschillende studentenverenigingen strijden om de zilveren bokaal voor het beste debatteam van Groningen.

Het toernooi zal beginnen rond 15.30 uur met een workshop waarbij de regels, tips en trucs van Amerikaans Parlementair debatteren worden uitgelegd. Na de workshop zal iedereen vertrekken naar Wagamama voor het diner. Na het diner zal de wedstrijd beginnen en zal gedebatteerd worden in verschillende zalen van het Academiegebouw. De juryvoorzitter voor het de Engelse competitie is Rector Magnificus Frans Zwarts. Voor het Nederlandstalige deel van dit toernooi is het Roderik van Grieken, oprichter en directeur van het Nederlands Debatinstituut. De avond zal worden afgesloten met een gezellige borrel. Deelnamekosten bedragen ¤7, dit is inclusief diner. Er kunnen per vereniging maximaal 2 teams voor het Nederlandse gedeelte en 2 teams voor het Engelse gedeelte meedoen. Op 14 en 15 mei 2009 wordt de Nacht van Eindhoven georganiseerd door adviesbureau CQM. In deze wedstrijd werken teams van drie studenten gedurende een nacht aan opdrachten uit de wiskundige adviespraktijk van CQM. Dit is alweer het vierde jaar dat dit evenement georganiseerd wordt en we zien in de loop der jaren een groeiende belangstelling voor deelname.

Op donderdag 20 november 2008 vanaf 15.00 uur organiseren ESN Groningen (de internationale studentenorganisatie van de RuG) en de ACLO een fantastisch sportevenement. De vijf verschillende sporten zijn voetbal, volleybal, frisbee, knotsbal en trefbal. Zowel internationale als Nederlandse studenten zijn van harte welkom om aan dit toernooi mee te doen. Het idee achter dit grote sporttoernooi is om internationale studenten in contact te brengen met Nederlandse studenten en omgekeerd. Je maakt kennis met sporten die je misschien niet elke dag/week doet. In teamverband van maximaal 6 personen strijd je om de eerste plaats!

Na alle speelrondes is er een buffet en aansluitend de prijsuitreiking en een gezellige borrel! Meedoen aan de International Games kost 5 euro per persoon inclusief diner.

Nederlandse studenten kunnen zich opgeven voor de International Games via de website van de ACLO www.aclo-sport.nl. Buitenlandse studenten geven zich op bij het ESN-pand (Grote Rozenstraat 23). Is je team samengesteld uit Nederlandse en buitenlandse studenten, dan kun je je opgeven op het ESN-pand.


Het is niet belangrijk of je in je eentje meedoet of met je vrienden als team, het gaat om het meedoen.

De Ministerraad heeft besloten een wetsvoorstel te maken voor de invoering van de harde knip tussen de bachelor en master in het Hoger Onderwijs vanaf 2010. Deze harde knip gaat studenten verplichten eerst de bachelor af te ronden voor zij aan hun master mogen beginnen. De Groninger Studentenbond (GSb) is fel tegen dit plan: Het effect zal zijn dat wie een vak niet gehaald heeft, een heel jaar collegegeld moet betalen om dat ene vak te halen. Dat zijn dure studiepunten.

Minister Plasterk heeft totaal geen oor gehad voor de kritiek en aanbevelingen die de Landelijke Studenten Vakbond (LSVb) in het overleg tussen studenten en Minister naar voren heeft laten komen. Steun jezelf en toekomstige studenten in de strijd tegen de blokkade in het Hoger Onderwijs. Teken voor een volwaardige studie!

De Groninger Studentenbond

Namens de faculteit GMW waar ik plaats neem in de faculteitsraad,
wil ik u een interessant verzoek doen.

Wij werken net als andere faculteiten aan de internationalisering van de faculteit.
Buitenlandervaringen zijn goed voor studenten. Deze dragen positief bij aan het kennisniveau en persoonlijke ontplooiing. Om uitgaande internationalisering te stimuleren willen we een tool ontwikkelen voor op de website van de (rug) faculteit. Dit moet een grafisch hoogstandje zijn die buitenlandse bestemmingen sterk visueel weergeeft.
Bijvoorbeeld een wereldbol waarop je na het ingeven van je studierichting  een aantal bestemmingen ziet. Deze zouden voorzien kunnen worden van informatie en interactiviteit (Youtube / rondleidingen).
Een dergelijk systeem hoeft niet per definitie gebonden te zijn aan een faculteit en kan daarom erg interessant zijn.

Om dit te kunnen realiseren ben ik opzoek naar een programmeur die dit leuk lijkt. Er is veel vrijheid voor het aandragen van eigen ideeën en oplossingen.
Bovendien is het (volgens het onderwijsbureau KI/IT) waarschijnlijk mogelijk om EC's hiervoor te verdienen. De opzet zou daarvoor moeten worden voorgelegd aan een van de studieadviseurs.

Op 1 september 2008 zal het Academisch Jaar 2008-2009 van start gaan. Geheel volgens traditie zal ter viering van dit heugelijke feit ook dit jaar er weer een mooi evenement georganiseerd worden. Naast de toost van de Rector Magnificus met alle studenten en de bordesscène met de besturen van alle Groningse studenten- en studieverenigingen (om 17.45), zal er een groot feest plaatsvinden op het Broerplein.
Een gevarieerd programma waarin onder andere Ellen ten Damme en DJ's Bo, Nijs & hun denkbeeldige vriendje zijn opgenomen biedt de hele avond vermaak. Het Cover-bestuur is erbij en we zouden het erg tof vinden om tijdens de bordesscène toegejuicht te worden door Cover-leden!

Zoals iedereen weet word er op maandag 25 augustus een introductiedag door de faculteit georganiseerd. Cover zal op deze dag het middagprogramma ondersteunen. Er is een boekverkoop van de BoekCie voor de eerstejaars en de aankomende studenten gaan met hun mentorgroep een speurtocht over zernike volgen. Aan studenten die daarna nog een hapje en drankje willen doen word natuurlijk ook gedacht. De Introcie organiseert samen met de Actie een stukje pizza en een borrel in Café Karakter.

Het laatste weekend van augustus (29-30-31) word door de Introcie een spetterend kamp georganiseerd. Dit zal plaats vinden op Schiermonnikoog. op dit kamp leren eerstejaars elkaar en de studievereniging kennen. Het hele weekend staat bol van spellen, feesten, vuur en explosies.

Mensen gezochten voor een traineeship in India, voor een periode van 4-6 maanden.



Heb jij zin om tijdens je studie of na je studie een keer een tijdje naar het buitenland te gaan? Een compleet ander land en andere cultuur te ontdekken? Dit is je kans!

Ik werk op dit moment bij Helios Solutions, een internationaal Software Development, Website- en Multimedia Design bedrijf, gevestigd in India. Tevens doen we aan IT staffing in Nederland. Helios Solutions is al tweeënhalf jaar actief op de Nederlandse markt. In deze periode zijn we verschillend kort- en langdurige aangegaan met Nederlandse IT bedrijven.

Waar zijn we naar op zoek? In totaal zoeken we 6 Nederlandse studenten of mensen die net zijn afgestudeerd die graag een traineeship willen doen voor een periode van 4 tot 6 maanden (of langer als je wilt) in de stad Vadodara in India. De werkzaamheden zijn het coördineren van projecten met Nederlandse klanten, communicatie tussen Nederland en India (cultuurverschillen helpen oplossen), en nieuwe Nederlandse klanten benaderen. Tevens zijn we ook op zoek naar mensen met een technische achtergrond die ook kunnen helpen bij programmeren of die hun technische kennis kunnen gebruiken bij het coördineren van de projecten, aangezien technische mensen weten waar ze over praten.

Ik werk hier nu zelf sinds maart en ga in augustus hier weg. Het werk is erg afwisselend en bevalt me prima. Daarnaast kan ik vanuit hier veel van India zien. Bijna elk weekend gaan we een weekendje weg om dingen te bezoeken samen met de andere trainees die hier zitten. We zoeken nieuwe mensen per die begin juli kunnen beginnen. Vorig jaar heeft de Nederlandse Studievereniging voor Kunstmatige Intelligentie voor het eerst een Student Conference georganiseerd, waarbij KI-studenten uit verschillende steden hun onderzoek of scriptie presenteren. Het was een groot succes en daarom is het tijd voor een tweede editie!

Op vrijdagmiddag 6 juni van 13.00u - 17.00u zal de 2nd NSVKI Student Conference plaatsvinden in Utrecht.

Zes studenten van verschillende universiteiten zullen een tipje van de sluier oplichten over hun onderzoek, scriptie of stage. De onderwerpen van de papers variëren van de logica van Lambek calculus tot de evolutie van mirror neurons en alles daartussenin! Alle vakgebieden van Kunstmatige Intelligentie zullen de revue passeren en bovendien is er na afloop een gratis borrel waarbij naar hartelust kan worden nagekletst en -gediscussieerd.

Volgend jaar zal voor de vierde keer de Bètadag georganiseerd worden. Om dit te realiseren hebben we echter nog nieuwe leden nodig in de Bètadagcommissie.

Het idee van de Bètadag is dat middelbare scholieren op een leuke
manier te zien krijgen hoe de bètawetenschappen het dagelijks leven beïnvloeden. Het doel is eigenlijk om de bètawereld en haar bewoners in een positief daglicht te stellen en om te laten zien dat het niet alleen stoffige abstracte wetenschap is die verder een beetje los van de werkelijkheid staat. Dit doen we door een of twee dag(en) te organiseren met korte colleges en vooral veel proefjes.

Om een goed beeld te krijgen van alle takken van de bètawetenschappen, willen we vertegenwoordigers van zoveel mogelijk verschillende studies/studieverenigingen in de commissie hebben.

Ook de commissies presenteren op deze ALV hun jaarverslag.

Verder zal er, zoals aangekondigd, gestemd worden over een nieuw logo voor Cover.
De deadline voor het insturen van de logo's is dinsdag 19 februari.

Wat is de Imagine Cup?      

De Imagine Cup is de grootste wereldwijde softwarecompetitie voor technologie studenten. Inmiddels hebben wereldwijd al meer dan 100.000 studenten uit meer dan honderd landen meegedaan. In Nederland wordt de competitie dit jaar voor de derde maal lokaaal georganiseerd, waarbij een halve finale en finale in 2 categorieën worden gehost; de Software Design competitie en de Game Development competitie.  
                                                                          
Binnen de Software Design categorie wordt je als IT-student uitgedaagd om met een idee te komen voor een applicatie welke bij zal dragen aan een sustainable environment; Werk je idee visueel uit, maak een begin aan een prototype en presenteer je idee tijdens de halve finales eind maart waarbij je kans maakt op een plek in de finale. In de finale presenteer je op een coole locatie en onder het oog van de media een werkend prototype. Tijdens de finale maak je kans op diverse cashprijzen en de trip naar Parijs waar jij met je team tijdens de wereldwijde finales Nederland zal vertegenwoordigen. Tevens biedt Microsoft Imagine Cup teams trainingen aan gedurende de periode tot de finales. Ook is er begeleiding bij de uitwerking van je idee tot prototype. Een mooie mogelijkheid dus om op een leuke manier je skills te tonen en je kennis te vergroten.

Kom dinsdag 9 oktober om 20 uur naar de algemene ledenvergadering en laat jouw stem horen! Op de ALV zullen onder anderen de halfjaarverslagen gepresenteerd worden en er zullen nieuwe bestuursleden ingehamerd worden. We hopen jullie allemaal te zien! Ook jouw stem telt!

De FoToDieVieDie komt er weer aan!!

Hier staan alle foto's van het jaar 2006-2007 in groot formaat op, dus begin aan je verzameling, vul hem aan of maak je verzameling helemaal compleet!
Je kunt ze vanaf nu bestellen bij de FoToCie, door een mailtje te sturen naar fotocie@ai.rug.nl. Let op: De eerste tientallen bestellingen krijgen de FoToDieVieDie geheel gratis! Dus wees er snel bij!
Zijn de gratis FoToDieVieDie's op, wees dan niet getreurd, je kunt tegen een kleine vergoeding natuurlijk nog steeds de geweldige FoToDieVieDie ontvangen!

Recentelijk hebben we een groot aantal wijzigingen aan de CoVer site aangebracht. Hoewel er voor jullie niets veranderd, is er onder de motorkap veel gebeurd. Mocht het zo zijn dat er bepaalde pagina's niet meer werken, laat het ons dan even weten op easy@ai.rug.nl, of als reactie op deze mededeling.

We gaan het jaar goed beginnen met veel activiteiten voor eerstejaars! Op 13 september organiseren de eerstejaarsCie (CoVer) en de Ciecie (FMF) gezamelijk een avondje lasergamen voorafgaand aan de
afterparty van het introductiekamp. Het schieten begint om
20:00 en 2 rondjes gamen kost je slechts 9 euro. Bij
overinschrijving (>24 man) wordt er geloot en krijgen de
eerstejaars voorrang. Opgave gaat per e-mail:
ciecie@fmf.nl. Vermeld hierbij ook even of je oudere-
danwel eerstejaars bent.

Aansluitend volgt de afterparty van het Introkamp in Unitas (Schuitendiep 74). Waarom daar? Ach, Bier ¤1,-, fris ¤1,- en wijn ¤1,40 is nooit verkeerd :)
Hou dus een groot gat open in je agenda en kom in Futurama stijl! Kaarten zijn verkrijgbaar bij Jan Kazemier en Joel Kuiper (voor gegevens: zie almanak). En kosten ¤1,- (aan de deur ¤2,-). Ook zullen wij nog met kaarten langskomen bij een eerstejaars college.

Voor wie het nog niet wist: Er is deze week voor het introkamp nog een borrel! Hier zullen de eerstejaars met hun mentoren aanwezig zijn om kennis te maken met alle OIC studenten. Kijk dus even op de agenda (http://www.ai.rug.nl/~cover/agenda.php?agenda_id=506) en kom langs voor een gratis drankje!

Er schijnt bij de leden wat onduidelijkheid te zijn of er een borrel is. Voor alle duidelijkheid dus: Er is deze week nog een borrel! Komt allen aankomende dinsdag dus de vakantie met de Actie indrinken!

Beste forum bezoekers,

Er zijn een aantal verbeteringen aan het forum waar al lang op gewacht werd. Deze zijn nu gerealiseerd! Je kunt nu berichten wijzigen, een voorbeeld bekijken van je bericht voordat je het plaatst (of wijzigd) en berichten verplaatsen. Ook kun je automatisch geselecteerde tekst uit een bepaald bericht quoten!

Het zeilweekend komt er weer aan! 6, 7 en 8 Juli gaan we proberen met een recordaantal leden en medewerkers te gaan zeilen op de Friese meren. Meld je voor 22 juni voor dit all included zeilweekend voor maar 65 euro! Aanmelden kan via actie@ai.rug.nl!

24 Mei is er vanaf tien uur weer een alfabetfeest! Kaartjes zijn in de voorverkoop maar 2,50 euro. Het thema is dit jaar Flower Power, dus reserveer je kaartjes door te mailen naar actie@ai.rug.nl of koop kaartjes bij het bestuur en kom zo fleurig mogelijk!

De excursie naar BCN morgen kan niet door gaan, omdat degene die ons zou rondleiden ziek is.

Lid worden van CoVer kan nu ook online! Om lid te worden;
ga naar 'Lid/Donateur worden' en dan naar 'lidmaatschapsformulier'.

Het lidmaatschap bedraagt 10 euro per jaar. Word je na 1 februari lid, dan betaal je voor het resterende deel van het verenigingsjaar 5 euro.

Om beter bereikbaar te zijn, zal de CoVer-kamer op deze tijden in ieder geval open zijn:

Maar het was wel gezellig.

Na afgelopen ALV is er nieuw leven in de Foetsie geblazen. Vanaf nu gaat de Foetsie elke derde maandagavond van de maand een Foetsie Film houden. Komt dus allen!

Er komt weer een spannende ALV aan, waarop we een heleboel leuke dingen te bespreken hebben. We beginnen om 12:00 in zaal 122 op het IDEA. We hopen iedereen dan te zien, bekijk de voorlopige agenda voor meer details.

Het jaar 2007 komt er alweer in zicht en daarmee is het ook tijd voor een nieuw CoVer Bestuur. Hiervoor zijn we op zoek naar 5 enthousiaste CoVer leden die een jaar lang samen willen werken om de wensen van de CoVerleden te behartigen. Een jaar waarin je leert om verantwoordelijkheid te nemen voor je beslissingen. En een jaar waarin je jezelf persoonlijk en professioneel kan ontwikkelen. Waar je alvast leert om multidisciplinair te werken, een belangrijke eigenschap voor je latere carrière. Maar het is ook erg leuk om je leden beter te leren kennen en activiteiten voor hen te organiseren. Verder ga je ook veel samenwerken met de zusterverenigingen in Nederland en de andere studieverenigingen in Groningen. Klinkt dit je interessant in de oren, lees de verstuurde mail voor meer informatie, of vraag dan eens verder bij de leden van het Bestuur, deze kan je bereiken op CoVer@ai.rug.nl!

Beste mensen, zoals jullie waarschijnlijk wel is opgevallen, is de website vernieuwd. Er is qua uiterlijk een hoop veranderd maar alle functies (met her en der wat verbeteringen) zijn als het goed is hetzelfde gebleven.

Mocht je nou iets opvallen wat niet werkt, wat je niet mooi vind, wat je denkt dat handiger zou kunnen, of gewoon ideeën die je hebt, mail dat dan naar de Easy dan kunnen we zo snel mogelijk de problemen die er nog mochten zijn oplossen.

Het is weer tijd voor een borrel!
Kom opscheppen over je vakantie, wissel de allerlaatste roddels van het introkamp uit en maak kennis met de nieuwste KI'ers! (dan moeten de mentoren wel even hun mentorgroepjes meeslepen )

Vanaf 22.00u is iedereen welkom in Jut en Jul!

Er is weer een half CoVer jaar voorbij.
Daarom is het weer tijd voor een ALV waarin jij je stem kan laten horen. Deze keer zal er onder andere een beslissing worden genomen over het toelaten van informatici tot de vereniging.
We beginnen om 3 uur in Munting 0.074, natuurlijk zorgen wij weer voor koffie, thee en koeken

Vergeet het niet: morgen (donderdag) is het tijd voor de buitenborrel van de Foetsie in het zernikepark.
Neem vooral ook je eigen spelletjes en kleedjes mee (in alle mogelijke pastelkleuren graag), zodat iedereen lekker kan zitten en spelen =)

Dinsdag 6 juni is er weer een borrel in Jut en Jul.
Dit is te vinden aan de Rademarkt 5 (inderdaad, daar zat eerst de Lazy Frog).

Vanaf 22.00u is er een piekuur, waardoor je niet veel hoeft te betalen voor je biertje. Om dit piekuur in stijl af te sluiten, worden we om 23.00u getrakteerd op een gratis drankje (bier, fris of wijn)! :)

Mis dat dus niet en kom 6 juni naar de borrel!

CoVer heeft een nieuw bestuur geconstitueerd en dat mag gevierd worden! Dit doen we natuurlijk graag met zoveel mogelijk mensen, vandaar dat jij
bent uitgenodigd om naar Café Koster (Hoogstraatje 7-9) aankomende woensdag te komen om dit met ons te vieren. Speciaal voor alle leden is er een piekfust vanaf 21.30!

Constitutieborrel 13e bestuur van CoVer


Heb jij zin in een feestje? Kom dan vanavond naar de Constitutieborrel om te vieren dat er een nieuw bestuur is ingehamerd! Dit bestuur bestaat uit Bastiaan Fens (voorzitter), Lise Pijl (secretaris) en Cas van Noort (penningmeester).

Daar zijn ze dan! De FoToCie-foto's van het ET-feest samen met de FMF. Wegens computer, tijd en geheugenproblemen helaas ietwat vertraagd.

Woensdag 8 februari vindt de Algemene Ledenvergadering van CoVer plaats in de Bladergroenzaal aan de Groote Rozenstraat 38. De stukken van deze vergadering staan op deze pagina online:

Komende ALV worden veel belangrijke stukken besproken en beslissingen genomen. Jouw mening telt daarom, dus zorg dat je ook langskomt. Als je niet kunt komen, dan is het mogelijk om een machtigingsformulier in te vullen.

Er staan weer "nieuwe" foto's online.
Het heeft een tijdje geduurd, maar dan zijn eindelijk toch ook de Sinterklaas foto's online. Sorry dat het zo laat is, maar ja... erg druk gehad.

Aan het lijstje met forums/a is een nieuwe toegevoegd: Algemeen. Hier kunnen alle berichten geplaatst worden die niet in de andere forums passen of die ueberhaupt nergens over gaan. Dus heb je iets leuks gevonden op internet of heeft je goudvis jonkies gekregen: post het in Algemeen!
