                                                        SNiC: DisruptIT

DisruptIT is the 11th conference organised by the Stichting Nationaal Informatica Congres, this year study association Cover provides the committee that will organise it and it will be held on the 15th of November.

This year’s theme is Disruptive Technology. Disruptive Technology is technology that displaces an established technology. This will shake up the current industry or is so ground breaking that it creates its own industry. This topic is focussing on current and future technologies that will change the work field of current students. It is hard for students to predict the future of a rapidly changing market. We want to give the students a mind-changing insight into the future.

This is one of the most difficult topics in Artificial Intelligence and Data Analysis. Niels Denissen of ING will tell about there cutting edge technologies they use to help traders make their decisions, and the problems they are still facing.

                                                                                          Sign up here:

Additionally we use machine learning to augment this process by providing predictions with the knowledge of hundreds of thousands previously traded deals. With Katana, traders are shown to be faster and more accurate in their decision making process. Katana has been built with open-source software, including technologies such as Kafka, Flink, CouchDB, and Docker. The analytics stack has been built using Python, using Pandas, SK-Learn, and Keras.

Before starting at ING roughly 2,5 years ago I finished a masters in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Utrecht and a bachelors of Computer Science at the Technical University of Eindhoven. I'm passionate about working with data: Providing fast and reliable solutions for complex problems, as well as practicing data science whenever time allows. Outside of work I like cycling, soccer, snowboarding, and value time spent with friends and family.

In order to be a significant player in this field, TNO performs research in the fields of digital attacks, risk management and prevention. Fully understanding how a hacker works is a part of this research.

In this talk, Jan Kazemier, scientist at TNO Cyber Security & Robustness (and alumnus of Cover), will give a brief introduction into the world of hacking in practice.

Cover will provide a free lunch for everyone!

To prepare you for this day we will be doing a lollypop action. This means you can buy a lolly beforehand and write a card to go with it. During the social we will hand these out to the correct persons. So if you want to declare your love to your secret crush, want to send your girl/boyfriend a nice treat or just want to make a friend happy, make sure you don't forget to write your card and order your lollypop in time.

A lollypop will cost 1 euro and you have to order it before 2 February!
Ordering can be done by filling out the form in the Cover room and writing your message.

At Spindle the traditional hierarchical model of organization is replaced by a system called Holacracy. In the system, it is assumed that people work better if they're treated as adults and given the opportunity to organize themselves. The classical function building is replaced by an evolving system of different roles. People who work in roles generally have more responsibility for their tasks, which makes them more ambitious to reach the best result. Joris Engbers will tell about his experience with this brand-new way of working.  Read more about them here.

During this TAD-talk, you will get the chance to work on and learn about some of these skills in a relaxed setting.

Unipartners is a consultancy firm lead and run by students, working on hundreds of projects in all of the Netherlands. So this is your chance to ask anything about excelling in your future career or research!

                                                                                                                Location: BB 5161.0273

Then attend this workshop, which will teach you about the ease and comfort of Git. Git is a distributed revision control and source code management (SCM) system. It keeps track of everything you have coded and allows you to retrieve older versions of your code. And it makes working together a breeze!

During this workshop you will learn the basics of Git, grap the contents, and how to use git for your next (or current!) project.

One of these activities is the annual Alphabet Party.

What about it? Yearly we organise this party in collaboration with other study associations, this year we are with 18 in total. Every year a letter from the alphabet is picked and we think of a theme starting with this letter. You can base your outfit on the chosen letter.

This year the ‘M’ was selected, and the theme we made up is ‘Midnight Madness’. We hope you will all create the maddest outfits and come party with us on Thursday the 22nd of February. It promises to be an awesome night!

Tickets cost €5,- in presale and €6,50 at the doors and includes two drinks and free use of the cloakroom. Furthermore, you get  10% discount on your costume by showing your ticket at Firma Mulder. Any questions? Mail to or send a message via the Facebook page. We hope to see you all there!

There are prizes to win and drinks to be drunk, so sign up (in pairs) as soon as possible, as there are only 30 spaces (15 pairs)! Drinks and dinner are generously provided by Quintor, so there is no entry fee. Sign up at!

The company organizes an inhouseday for Cover so you can get into contact with the young professionals that are working in IT-solutions. Next to that you've got the chance to show your talent in a challenging case about the Microsoft HoloLens. We'll end the day with drinks.

At this moment there are 60 people working at different locations in the EU and Middle East, focusing on implementing new technologies to realize the planned growth and development of HTG. One of the current technologies worked on is the Microsoft Hololens, which can greatly improve the logistic processes. Do you want to do a project on augmented reality? HTG is looking for people willing to do a thesis on the HoloLens.

Next to that, HTG is one of the first companies that have implemented the AutoStore in logistics. In this process there are 42 robots working together to collect orders. Of course we will have a look at this in Delfzijl!

During the day we will discuss:

We'll discuss the budget and year schedule for next year, but also a revised version of the long term plan. Don't forget the candidate board is also up for approval during this GA!

                                                                                                                                                                                          Year Schedule '18-'19

In the year schedule you can find when activities are planned. Some of them are set on a certain date and other are just scheduled for a certain week. You can also find how many activities each committee has. This has been put together by Marie-Claire (our commissioner of internal affairs). She discussed with the various committees what works best and came to this result.

                                                                                                                                                                                          Budget '18-'19

This will be the budget for next year, so you can find in here how much money we have to spend and what we are going to spend it on. Because this is made by Nico (our treasurer) in collaboration with the committees, there is still some room for the treasurer of next year to make changes during the September GA. However this does not mean that this isn't important because next year we have a lot of extra money to spend! This money has been distributed over different committees and activities.

                                                                                                                                                                                          Long Term Plan

After discussing the first version of the long term plan during the last GA we decided to have a brainstorm with the board. During that brainstorm we got a ton of useful input and we used that input to rewrite the document. We think the current plan is solid and we can start using it. It is very important that future boards keep adding to it and updating it.

In the long term plan we outline the goals for the next 3 to 5 years for the association. The steps on how to reach those goals are not in here because they are up to the future boards that work on it. Which also means some of these goals don't have a clear solution of how to get there, but the goals are still very important. We'd also like to stress it's important to have such a plan in place and future boards can still improve it!
